A group of Sri Lankan housemaids who were abused by employers in Kuwait have returned to the country today (April 18).
The group comprising 26 women had arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on flight UL-230 at around 6:30 am. The group had inititally approached the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait regarding the issue following which arrangements were made to help them return to Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the women had travelled using a temporary passport and had also borne the cost for the air tickets.
The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, had however granted the workers funds for their bus fare and an allowance upon arrival to the country.
