Two persons have been arrested while attempting to smuggle more than 38,000 foreign cigarettes into the country today (Aug 3).
Customs officials had apprehended the suspects at the Bandaranaike International Airport upon their return from Dubai.
The suspects have been identified as individuals aged 33 and 45. According to customs officials, the value of the cigarettes is estimated to be around Rs 800,000.
The cigarette sticks had been concealed in the luggages of both individuals.
