Galewela police yesterday took into custody two suspects along with 150 bottles of arrack and 100 beer bottles which they were transporting by three-wheeler to be sold on the black market.
The Government announced yesterday that all liquor shops in the island will be closed until further notice. Police arrested the suspects acting on a tip-off that after this decision was announced, several individuals had been employed to purchase liquor from liquor shops in bulk to be sold at exhorbitant prices.
The arrested suspects are both residents of Galewela. Police said the suspects had planned to sell a bottle of arrack for as much as Rs 4000.
