The two-day train strike which was set to commence today (Dec 26) has been temporarily suspended following an undertaking issued by the Tranport Minister to respond to their demands.
Secretary of The Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union (LEOU), Indika Dodangoda said the Minister of Transport Arjuna Ranatunga had met with railway trade unionists and pledged to resolve the issues pertaining to the grading of officers within a month.
He added that the strike was called off following the undertaking given by the Minister.
The strike action was to be carried out by railway engine drivers, train regulators, along with several other officials from the Railway controlling and monitoring department.
