Two persons were killed while three were left injured after their jeep had collided with a lorry along the Southern Expressway last night.
Police said that the jeep had been plying towards Colombo when it had crashed onto a lorry travelling opposite the vehicle on the same lane.
The accident had occured between Dodangoda and Gelanigama at around 11:30 pm.
Two women had succumbed to death after being admitted to the Nagoda and Bandaragama hospitals while two other women are receiving treatment at the Bandaragama and Nagoda hospitals. The jeep driver has also been admitted to the Nagoda Hospital.
Police said that the lorry driver involved in the crash has been taken into custody. Further investigations are underway.
