Two names have been proposed for the post of Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The United National Party (UNP) has proposed the name of Monaragala District MP Ananda Kumarasiri. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has proposed Gampaha District MP Dr. Mrs. Sudarshini Fernandopulle.
As such, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has now called for a secret vote to elect the Deputy Speaker.
The post of Deputy Speaker became vacant after former Deputy SpeakerThilanga Sumathipala stepped down from the post.
