Two people now holding Opposition Leader post - Sampanthan

Making a special statement in Parliament, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Leader R. Sampanthan stated that the post of the Leader of the Opposition is currently being held by two persons as the Speaker had not removed him from his position. 

Speaking further, Mr Sampanthan questioned whether the Speaker lacked the conviction to remove him from the post when he announced that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been appointed as the Opposition Leader. 

At a time when no recognized Government was in place, there was no need to appoint an Opposition Leader in haste, he further said. Mr Sampanthan further pointed out that there was currently a dispute over whether Mr Rajapaksa was even a Member of Parliament now.
