Two persons who had undertaken a Rs 3 million worth contract to murder a woman have been arrested in Galle today (Jun 18).
According to the police, the suspects including a woman were offered a contract to murder a hotel owner in Unawatuna. The husband of the arrested woman who lives in Sweden had given the contract to carry out the murder.
Officers attached to the Galle Police Crimes Branch had arrested the suspects upon a tip-off received by the Galle Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG)'s office.
Police said the hotel owner had been abducted and her photograph had been sent to the husband of the suspected woman via a social media app.
Investigations have revealed that the woman was an employee at the Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha. She has also been identified as a relative of a former Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman who had been killed over his links to the underworld.
