Two Sri Lankans have been arrested at the Pune Airport in India while attempting to smuggle gold worth over Rs 7.8 million today (Mar 15).
Indian police were quoted as saying the suspects had arrived from Singapore and had not submitted a declaration to the Customs Department on the gold which was being brought into the country.
Customs officials at the airport had arrested the two Sri Lankans with gold weighing 914.25 grams in the form of chains, bangles and biscuits.
The exact value of the seizure was recorded as Rs 7,837,173, Indian media reported.
