A two-storeyed shopping complex was engulfed in flames in Kuruduwatte, Akmeemana at around 2:25 am today (Mar 26).
The fire was doused by the firemen attached to the Galle Municipal Council, Police officers and area residents, Police Spokesman S.P. Ruwan Gunasekara said.
It is reported that the fire had broken out at a book store which was in the ground floor of the building and had spreaded onto a rubber footwear shop located adjacent to it. Accordingly, both the book shop and the footwear shop have been destroyed as a result of the fire.
Police are conducting further investigations to determine the casue of the incident and to estimate the amoun of damages caused due to the fire.
