Two individuals were sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court for stabbing a person to death over a land dispute in Kelaniya.
The death sentence was imposed after the suspects were found guilty before High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne today (Mar 14).
S. Ranjith Priyadarshana, 55, and D. Wijeratna alias 'Siril' alias 'Appachchi', 63 are the suspects who were found guilty of committing the murder nine years ago opposite the victim's residence in Waragodawatte, Kelaniya.
Charges were filed by the Attorney General who claimed that the suspects had committed the murder on August 25, 2010.
Meanwhile, eight individuals including the wife, children and relatives of D. Wijeratne were also charged by the Attorney General over the incident.
However, the judge had accquited six individuals by declaring that the charges levelled against them were not proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
