UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer called on Army Commander Lt. General Mahesh Senanayake and conveyed her deepest condolences over the death of two Lankan peacekeeping personnel in Mali last week.
During the discussion, Ms. Singer had pledged that she would do everything possible to expedite the process of compensating the victim’s families.
In addition she had also said that she would receive the remains of the personnel at the Bandaranaike International Airport and issue a special condolence message at the funeral.
Army Commander Senanayake expressing his gratitude towards her concern had said that funeral arrangements have been planned by the Army and the deceased personnels’ respective Regimental Headquarters.
Secretary to the visiting UN Resident Coordinator, Major General Ruwan Kulathunga - Colonel of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry regiment and Brigadier Prathap Thilakaratne, Army Headquarters Director (Overseas Operations) also attended the meeting.
