UNP appoints committee to decide on Presidential candidate
The United National Party (UNP), on the instructions of its leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, has appointed a committee to decide on the party's presidential candidate.
The committee includes Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Kabir Hashim, and Malik Samarawickrama along with the Prime Minister's advisor Dinesh Weerakkody.
The committee had been appointed following last week's discussion between Mr. Wickremesinghe and UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, who have both expressed their intentions of coming forward as the presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, during yesterday's Parliamentary group meeting of the party, the Prime Minister had stated that the presidential candidate would be announced once the committee submits its report to that effect.
