UNP claims No-Confidence Motion against MR passed

United National Party (UNP) MPs have declared that the No-Confidence Motion against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was passed in Parliament with a majority. 

UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella told journalists outside the chambers that while United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) protested against the motion and caused disruption, the motion was passed by a show of hands, which reflected that Mr Rajapaksa did not command the confidence of the majority of members in the House. 

MP Ajith P Perera meanwhile echoed the claim, insisting that the motion was carried by a majority. 

However, UPFA MPs have disputed the move, claiming that no vote was taken.
