The United National Party (UNP) is set to meet today (Aug 19) to decide on its presidential candidate and discuss matters on its proposed alliance, Minister Ravi Karunanayake said.
The meeting is expected to be chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at 4 pm at Temple Trees.
Minister Karunanayake noted that the party would field a candidate who could maintain diplomatic ties with other countries.
Meanwhile, a special meeting has reportedly been arranged between backbench parliamentarians of the UNP and Deputy Leader Minister Sajith Premadasa.
A meeting between UNP members had also been held last Saturday to discuss matters concerning the proposed Democratic National Front (DNF) alliance.
