The United National Party (UNP) will expel any members who try to contest the upcoming general election from another party, a senior MP allied with party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe stated.
The individual stated that the party's majority of the party's Working Committee had decided that the UNP and other parties in their alliance should contest the general election under the 'Elephant' symbol.
He added they had heard that some members are trying to contest the election under the 'Heart' symbol from another party. "We will not recognize such a move. Any members who do so will be expelled from the Working Committee and from the party itself," he added.
