The UNP’s Working Committee has decided to take a further period to decide on selecting a new leader while giving preference to the youth.
Accordingly those who are selected to the post and those who volunteer to accept the position will be considered and a person representing the youth is to be selected, the party said in a statement.
At the Working Committee meeting it was decided that all views from the party members should be considered in selecting the new leader.
A party statement said that a decision would be taken ‘shortly’ but did not indicate a time frame from the change of the leadership.
