UNP Working Committee approves new appointments to the party

The UNP Working Committee today approved all the names proposed for top slots in the party's new Politburo with objections raised by some senior members.  

Former MP Joseph Michael Perera, who is also a member of UNP Working Committee said that he has resigned from the post objecting to the proposal to appoint former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake as the party's new Assistant Leader. 

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe took the social media site, Twitter to congratulate the newly appointees to the party. "I congratulate all the new appointees in the UNP leadership team. I look forward to working together to make this United National Party even stronger," he said. 

Accordingly, Minister Kabir Hashim has been appointed as the new Chairman of the UNP while Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam would be new the General Secretary of the party.

Minister Sajith Premadasa will continue to serve as the Deputy Leader of the UNP, while Minister Navin Dissanayake will be appointed as the new National Organizer.

Meanwhile State Minister Harsha De De Silva has been appointed Treasurer, while State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene has been appointed to the post of Deputy General Secretary.Furthermore State Minister Ajith P Perera will serve as Trade Union Secretary and Minister Harin Fernando is to be appointed Media Secretary.
