Sri Lanka’s Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) Managing Director and CEO Muhunthan Canagey resigned from his position on Friday (August 11) in a controversy over ‘telecom spectrum’ and other issues.
Making the announcement in his official facebook page he had stated that he was asked by President Maithipala Sirisena to resign from his position as the Managing Director and CEO of ICTA.
His post said, “I have officially resigned from the position of CEO and Managing Director of ICTA. I was informed by Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, Harin Fernando that President Maithripala Sirisena has requested me to resign.”
Mr. Canagey’s post on social media further stated that the reason for the President to ask him to resign came after Mr. Canagey had questioned the issuing of spectrum worth US$25 million to Capital Maharaja during the current President's term of office without any public auction or tender. The spectrum should have been used for digitization, he has stated.
Mr. Canagey took over office as the Managing Director and CEO in 2015. His 2--page of resignation had been addressed to the ICTA Chairperson, members of the board, senior management, colleagues and friends. - (RM)

The Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka (ICTA) Managing Director and CEO Muhunthan Canagey has resigned from his position.
He announced his resignation in a Facebook post saying he has been instructed to step down by the President.
The ICTA MD has been under intense pressure over allegations pertaining to the proposed national payments platform and other issues.
