Against the backdrop of media reports calling the ‘Status of Forces Agreement’ a deep rooted plan by the US to turn Sri Lanka into an American military colony, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B Teplitz called the reports "blatant misinformation".
Ambassador Teplitz took to her official Twitter handle saying VFA negotiations were only to facilitate cooperation. She added that any agreement would fully respect Sri Lankan sovereignity.
Blatant misinformation. There is no plan or intention to establish a US base in Sri Lanka. VFA negotiations only aim to facilitate cooperation and any agreement will fully respect the sovereignty of #SriLanka. https://t.co/8icQt7t5ym
