US soldiers teams attached to US Army Cadet Command and US Pacific Command are currently engaged in flood relief operations in the flood affected areas, US Embassy in Colombo said.
The teams are coordinating with Disaster Management Center and other local government authorities to retsore the flood affected areas.
Last week US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap informed President Maithripala Sirisena of Rs 350 million ($2.3 million) as humanitarian assistance from the United States government and people to help victims of flooding and landslides in Sri Lanka. The aid will be used to provide safe drinking water, hygiene kits, emergency shelter materials, home repair kits, and critical health care services to stave off diseases.
