US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has cancelled his upcoming visit to Sri Lanka due to scheduling conflicts, the US Embassy in Sri Lanka announced today (Jun 19).
According to a press release issued by the Embassy, Pompeo has a tight schedule that includes accompanying President Donald J. Trump to the G20 Summit in Japan and his visits to the Indo-Pacific region.
"Secretary Pompeo regrets that he is no longer able to visit Colombo at this time," the Emabssy said adding that he hopes to visit Sri Lanka on a later date.
"The United States remains committed to these objectives and looks forward to building on our longstanding partnership," the US Embassy noted in a press release.
