The US government is expected to deploy 30 volunteer English teachers to Sri Lanka from next year, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
According to the Minister, this decision had been made during a meeting between him and US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz.
Mr. Kariyawasam stated that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to be signed between the ministry and the US embassy over this initiative.
He explained that these volunteer teachers would be deployed to teach English at rural schools in a bid to uplift the linguistic knowledge of students.
