The term of the Uva Provincial Council (PC) is set to expire at midnight tomorrow (Oct 8), making all nine provincial councils defunct in the country.
The Uva PC had functioned under five Governors and three Chief Ministers during its term of five years with the majority of the total 34 seats being won by the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
At the 2014 provincial council election, the UPFA had won 19 seats while the United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had won 13 and two seats respectively.
