The petition filed by Ven Dambara Amila Thero against the President's decision to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa in the Prime Minister's postion instead of Ranil Wickremesinghe has been fixed for hearing on June 11 by the Supreme Court.
During today's hearing of the petition, the Additional Solicitor General who was expected to appear for the Attorney General, had not been present in court citing other commitments.
The petitioner who is currently attached to the Nalanda University College in Horana had filed the petition aginst the President's decision to sack Premier Wickremesinghe on October 26 last year.
Accordingly, he had requested the Supreme Court to abolish the gazette notification which was issued by the President in order to appoint former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister.
A total of 53 individuals including Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, and the cabinet of ministers have been named as respondents in the case.
