The Supreme Court today (Feb 07) announced that the petition filed by Ven. Dambara Amila Theoro challenging the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister, will be heard on May 10.
Summons were also re-issed on the respondents after court was informed that they had not received their notices as of yet.
The case is being heard before a three-member judge bench comprising Justices Priyantha Jayawardana, Murdu Fernando, and E.A.G.A. Amarasekara.
The petitioner is currently serving as the head of the Nalanda University College in Horana.
Ven. Dambara Amila Thero in his petition had requested the Supreme Court to invalidate the gazette issued by President Maithripala Sirisena confirming the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.
A total of 53 respondents including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, and several other cabinet ministers have been named as respondents in the case.
