Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs John Amaratunga openly threatened journalists in full view of cameras yesterday.
The Minister became furious after journalists posed questions regarding garbage disposal issues at the Bopitiya area in Wattala. The angry Minister shouted at a journalist in filth and ordered all journalists be removed from the premises of his party office.
Despite attempts by journalists to explain that they were only questioning the Minister regarding allegations made by people against him, Mr Amaratunga continued threatening the journalists and ordered police officers who were present to remove them.
The entire episode occurred in full view of several policemen who made no attempt to intervene, except to remove the journalists from the premises on the Minister's orders.
