Former Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.Vigneswaran has referred to the recent Northern flood relief operations by security forces as being conducted with ulterior motives adding that such actions were merely for purposes of image building and not genuine.
Mr. Vigneshwaran made these controversial remarks while adding that the relief operations carried out by security forces were done with the motive of clearing themsleves of charges of war crimes.
"The international community and the United Nations will not be deceived by such moves" the former Chief Minster was quoted saying at an event to set up the People's Relief Association by the Tamil People's Alliance, the new political party of Wigneswaran in Kilinochchi.
Further, he had also alleged that security forces engaged in relief activities with the motive of remaining in the North.
"During the Tsunami, it was our own people who assisted each other and not the security forces," he claimed. "We received more aid from foreign nations when compared to what was given by our government at that time."
However, amidst the backdrop of all these remarks, several posters which appreciated the service of the security personnel during the floods, were seen on the roads.
Reportedly, the posters were put up with slogans claiming that the services of the forces was essential for the North.
