Former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran has been questioned by the Organised Crimes Prevention Division of the Police, over her controversial statement she made with regard to the LTTE.
According to local media reports MP Maheswaran was questioned for more than 3 and a half hours at her office in Jaffna yesterday. The statement was recorded under the supervision of a Superintendant of Police.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had earlier referred the matter to the Attorney General's Department, calling for a report on what legal action could be taken in this regard.
Thereafter the Attorney General informed the Inspector General of Police to promptly submit a report detailing the MP's statement. Vijayakala Maheswaran resigned from her post amidst outcry against her statement.
