The visting hours for tourists to the Sigiriya rock have been extended with effect from today (Feb 15).
Previously, the visting hours for tourists were from 7 am until 5 pm. However, following the revision in the time, both local and foreign tourists would be able to visit the rock from 6:30 am until 5 pm.
The Central Cultural Fund (CCF) said that over 150 tourists had arrived during the extended time period today. The majority of the said number were locals, the CCF added.
In addition, the CCF said that it hopes to extend the visiting time even further to enable tourists to visit the rock from 5 am onwards.
The motive of such moves is to reduce the congestion experienced by those visiting the site, CCF officials said.
