The Finance Ministry today (23) presented a Vote on Account (VoA) incorporating the expenditure of the Government for the first four months of 2020.
Accordingly, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera sought Parliamentary approval to obtain Rs. 1474 billion for State expenditure from January to April.
Parliamentary approval was also sought to raise loans to a sum not exceeding Rs. 721 billion in terms of relevant laws, whether in or outside Sri Lanka, for and on behalf of the Government.
The details of such loans will be incorporated in the Final Budget Position Report which is required to be tabled in Parliament under the Fiscal Management (Responsibility) Act.
The VoA is being presented instead of the usual Budget in view of the upcoming Presidential Election on November 16.
