The Election Commission (EC) has decided to extend the time of voting until 5 pm during the Presidential election, after political parties had expressed agreement.
EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya had told party representatives today (Oct 29) that a need had arisen to extend the voting time due to the large number of candidates contesting the poll.
This year's presidential election will see 35 candidates contesting the election on November 16. Accordingly, voting will run from 7 am to 5 pm.
A gazette in this regard will be issued in due course, the EC said.
