Water levels in the hydro catchment areas surrounding the western lowlands of the Central hills have increased by 80 percent, reservoir engineers said.
According to the engineers, the Castlreigh and Mawussakale reservoirs located in these areas are five feet and 15 feet away from overflowing. The engineers pointed out that the Castlereigh reservoirs holds a capacity of 46,000 feet while the Mawussakale reservoir has a capcity of 95,400 feet.
Two months ago, ruins and islands surfaced after water levels in these reservoirs dropped by 20 percent, while also posing a threat to power failures.
However, electrical engineers said that the Canyon, Laxapana, New Laxapana, Polpitiya, and Wimalasurendra hydro power stations are functioning fully due to the high water levels of these reservoirs at present.
