Weerawansa ends hunger strike

Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, who had been on a hunger strike for nine days while in remand custody, ended his fast today while being treated at the National Hospital. 

Mr. Weerawansa, who is also the leader of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP), is currently in remand custody over misuse of Government vehicles, allegedly resulting in losses amounting to millions of rupees to the State. 

He was transferred from the Prisons Hospital to the National Hospital yesterday.
