News

The Chief Minister of Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran today lashed out at one of his own party parliamentarian rejecting allegations that he is working against their own party. “The parliamentarian is trying victimize me in order to gain more popularity within the party,” Responding to the allegations leveled by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian M.A.Sumanthiran, the Chief minister said in a strongly worded statement that he is not a member of any political party of the alliance to be bound by the terms. Parliamentarian Sumanthiran earlier said he had called for his eviction from the party due to his unfaithful activities to the party. He said his party gave him the post of the Northern chief minister soon after he won the elections. However, Mr. Wigneswaran, a formerSupreme Court judge addressing to parliamentarian as “ his dear past student” that since he was elected by all parties in the TNA, any particular party cannot dictate terms to him. “ The TNA is not a registered party, it is an alliance of four parties. When some of them approached me to be the candidate for the chief minister post, I informed them that if all the parties agreed to my candidature only I will contest. They accepted me and I was elected with 133,000 votes in the province. Unlike the parliamentarian said I was not given the post by a party in the alliance,” he said in the letter. Justifying his decision to be neutral at the last Parliament election in August, he questioned how can he ask the voters to vote to one of the party in the alliance when he himself was elected by with the support of all of the parties in 2013. The NPC chief minister also alleged that the TNA’s manifesto of the recently concluded parliamentary election was prepared by Mr. Sumanthiran and he or the NPC councilors were not consulted in the drafting process. “ Soon after he sent me the draft of the manifesto, I informed him that I had to discuss about this with the cabinet and other councilors. The very next day it was published in the daily newspapers as the party’s manifesto. Then what was wrong with my decision to be neutral in the election? he asked. He also alleged that Mr Sumanthiran is involved in many secret meetings in Singapore with the government officials regarding the political solution for the ethnic conflict. “Nobody in the party or the alliance knows any of those details.
