A wildlife officer has been hospitalised as a result of injuries he sustained after being attacked at the Somawathiya National Park.
It is reported that the officer was attacked while he was about to arrest a group of suspects who had attempted to illegally construct a canal through the national park.
The officer had been a part of a team comprising wildlife officers who had attempted to arrest the suspects. The suspect who attacked the wildlife officer has been arrested.
The injured wildlife officer has been admitted to the Polonnaruwa Hospital.
