A wildlife officer who was involved in an operation to remove an elephant from Kaudupalella area in the Matale district has died.
According to the Wildlife Department owing to the constant human -elephant conflict in the Matale area several operations were launched to redirect the elephants else where.
Following several complaints from the public that crops were being damaged by the elephants in search of food a team of wildlife officers at the Rathgammana and Elahera Wildlife Office in Matale have commenced programme to distract the wild elephants.
The wildlife officer who passed away was attached to the Rathgama Wildlife Office.
The Wildlife Department has commenced a special investigation into the incident.
