Wildlife officer killed in wild elephant attack

A Wildlife Officer who took part in an operation to drive away a wild elephant from a village yesterday (19) succumbed to his injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant. 

Police said the incident had occurred at around 6.20pm at the Viranagama Village located next to a forest reserve bordering the Mahaweli River. 

The wildlife officer sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant. He was admitted to the Girandurukotte Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. 

The deceased was identified as a 53-year-old resident of Padiyathalawa. Girandurukotte Police are investigating.
