Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith has said that he neither intends to support any political party nor aspires to a political position in future.
Issuing a special statement, on behalf of the Cardinal, the Director of Archdiocesan Social Communication and Cultural Centre, drew attention to unwanted remarks being circulated through certain entities claiming that his Eminence should be given a political position owing to his conduct of leadership during the recent past in light of the tensions in the country.
"My objectives are to fulfill my services towards God and my people," Cardinal Ranjith said adding that his duty as a Cardinal was to discharge his services in a spiritual manner.
He also said that he will commit himself to nothing else other than preserving the heritage and culture of the country and is not looking to seek any political positions. Further the statement thanked those who expressed their good faith in the actions taken by his Eminence Cardinal Ranjith.
