President Maithripala Sirisena has intimated his insistence that the Premiership should be held by anyone other than UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
These sentiments were echoed by UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella who was among those who attended a meeting with President Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat today (Nov 3).
According to MP Kiriella, the President went as far as to say that he will not appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister even if Mr. Wickremesinghe has the support of all 225 members in Parliament.
The meeting was held between President Maithripala Sirisena and the United National Front in a bid to resolve the current political deadlock. However, discussions which concluded shortly have ended in yet another stalemate.
Further, reports suggest that the UNF delegation has made its way to Temple Trees and is currently holding discussions with Mr. Wickremesinghe.
