Western Provincial council member S. Kugawardhan and his wife have been released on two personal bails of Rs 25 million each by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate today (Dec 27).
The order was issued when the case was taken up before Magistrate Lochana Abeywickrema who also imposed a travel ban on the two suspects.
Mr. Kugawardhan was arrested by officials of the CID yesterday (Dec 26) over a forged cheque for a value of Rs 72 million written towards the purchasing of a housing complex.
Magistrate Abeywickrema ordered the suspects to be released after they had agreed to return Rs 57 million of the frauded money as an initial measure.
