An additional allowance of Rs 3000 for 350 acting Principals has been approved by Western Province Governor Azath Salley yesterday (Jan 18).
The allowance was previously provided to graded principals alone, the Governor's office said in a press release.
The release further noted that the approval was granted following a request made by a delegation who called on the Governor last week. The group headed by Provincial Council Minister Ranjith Somawansa comprised members of the Principal's Union.
Mr. Salley had said that this move would boost the morale of acting Principal's who were discharging their duties without receiving an allowance.
Responding to requests made by the delegation, he had also pledged to improve the education received by children in the Western Province.
