A writ petition was filed at the Appeal Court today (Feb 22) requesting that the suspects who were involved in assaulting inmates at the Agunukolapelassa prison be produced before courts.
The petition has been filed by the Convenor of the Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners (CPRP), Nandimal de Silva.
Mr. Silva had requested the Appeal Court to instruct the Criminal Investgations Department to produce the suspects involved in assaulting the prisoners before court.
Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale and seven others have been named as respondents in the case.
