Young girl injured in Piliyandala shooting dies
Th 11-year-old girl who suffered serious injuries during the shooting incident in Piliyandala on May 9 has succumbed to her injuries. She was receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Init (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital when she succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of today.
The victim was among several bystanders who were shot when gunmen targetted officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) on a busy road in Piliyandala on the night of May 9. A PNB officer also died in the incident, while two others, including an Inspector were seriously injured.
It later transpired that the PNB officers had been lured into an ambush.
The 11-year-old victim who died today was among three children injured in the incident. Her younger sister and older brother also sustained injuries after being struck by bullets.
