The renovated runway of the Bandaranaike International Airport was launched yesterday enabling the airport to return to its normal flight schedule from midnight today.
A newly acquired aircraft by SriLankan Airlines from Trivandrum, India with 121 passengers was the first to land following a ceremony presided over by Minister Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Sripala de Silva.
Mr de Silva said if the renovation had not taken place there would have been a position that flights will not be able to land from next year onwards..
