Hatred and nature’s fury

In Dependent Origination (Patichcha Samuppada), the foundation principle is “When this is there this occurs, when this occurs this happens. When this is not there this does not occur, when this ceases this does not happen” (Imasmin sathi idan hothi, imassa uppada idan uppajjathi. Imasmin asathi indan na hothi, imassa nirodha idan nirujjathi”. The twelve dharma (things) stated in this are the resultants.

It is quite clear that without a cause there is no effect and if the cause is removed then the effect is not there. Anyone can clearly see that nature is of four things - Earth, Water, Fire and Air. All natural disasters are of these four - earthquakes, floods, bushfires, tornadoes, cyclones etc.

These four are the Great Elements and they are present in all of what we call the earth, water, fire and air in differing proportions. Earth or Patavi element has more of earth element and less of other three. So it is with the other three great elements. Thus these four elements form nature.

Earth element:

The corona virus is rampaging in most parts of our Planet Earth. Countries across Europe are seeing a resurgence in COVID-19 cases after successfully slowing outbreaks early in the year. But how strong has the corona virus comeback been, and does it compare to the infection numbers seen in the spring?

Some countries such as, Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Montenegro, North Macedonia, are seeing higher case numbers in August than they did earlier in the year.

Belgium, Italy and the UK — among Europe's worst-hit countries — are seeing a resurgence but, so far at least, nothing like March and April. Of the three, the UK's figures look the most worrying.

France, Poland, the Netherlands and Spain are likely dealing with the much-feared second wave and have started taking action to curb it.

The question is did a benign virus mutate in latter part of 2019 to become virulent?

Fire element:

An unprecedented spate of deadly wildfires has raged across Oregon in the US.

Due to heatwave in Europe, Spain is experiencing wildfires, forcing evacuation of residents in Galicia.

Water element:

Heavy rains have caused floods in India - in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh causing enormous damage with thousands of deaths.

Unusually heavy rains have wreaked havoc in central and southwestern China, leaving hundreds dead.

Heavy rains are causing much flooding in Venezuela. 

Air element:

Hurricane Sally left a trail of destruction in the US, while Typhoon Haishen battered South Korea after powering through Japan.

NASA says that the wildfires in west coast have increased the Carbon Monoxide in the atmosphere.

Science and nature

As far as the scientific community is concerned, this is global warming due to increased concentration of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, mainly from such activities as increased burning of fossil fuel such as oil, coal and gas to generate electricity or power motor vehicles, deforestation and farming.

Recent scientific research by scientists about the speed of change in subatomic particles has shown that subatomic-article resonances occur when the net energy of colliding particles is just sufficient to create the rest mass of the new particle, which the strong force then breaks apart within 10−23 second. Nature as per Dhamma

Buddha the Enlightened One said of two things, the unconditioned and conditioned - the only unconditioned is that of Nibbana and all other things are conditioned by the cause and effect principle (Dependent Origination).

However, human hatred emission can cause aberration of the normal pattern of matter causing all four great elements to react. There is increasing hatred in most parts of the world. In USA, the Presidential elections has created much animosity among people, and the emergence of Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an example where we do not accept that we are all human beings and there must not be any discrimination. Lockdowns due to coronavirus are also creating anger among people.

Dr. Masuru Emoto of Japan with his experiments on water samples amply demonstrated how hatred and compassion can impact the water element, hatred negatively and compassion positively.

The Japanese scientist who revolutionised the idea that our thoughts and intentions impact the physical realm, is one of the most important water researchers the world has known. For over 20 years until he passed away in 2014, he studied the scientific evidence of how the molecular structure in water transforms when it is exposed to human words, thoughts, sounds and intentions.

The extraordinary life work of Dr. Emoto is documented in the New York Times bestseller, The Hidden Messages in Water. In his book, Dr. Emoto demonstrates how water exposed to loving, benevolent, and compassionate human intention results in aesthetically pleasing physical molecular formations in the water while water exposed to fearful and discordant human intentions results in disconnected, disfigured, and “unpleasant” physical molecular formations. He did this through Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology and high speed photographs.

Hatred, is mounting each day in our planet. Since June this year street protests are a daily occurrence in Belarus, with hundreds being arrested.

The trade war between USA and China is causing emission of hatred of hundreds of millions of people to the outer atmosphere. From July 2108 to June 2019, the US has imposed tariffs on more than $450bn of Chinese goods, and China has retaliated with tariffs on more than $170bn of US products. It would appear that not only China, but USA too has been badly hurt. All this means more hate in human minds going out to impact the four great elements.

The much published peace agreements between Israel and UAE and Bahrain can only create positive vibes in combined population of 20.1 million, while the tension between China and USA alone cause attrition and hatred in minds of 1.77 billion people.

Recent tensions also erupted on August 29 between China and India, when the Indian Army said it thwarted a "provocative action" by the Chinese soldiers to change the status quo at the southern bank of Pangong Tso Lake. Two days later, the Chinese government accused the Indian side of crossing the LAC.

Post border skirmishes, India banned the popular Chinese mobile gaming app PUBG Mobile and 117 other mobile apps having Chinese links citing security reasons. The government issued a statement on banning a total of 118 apps saying the apps are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order. So far in 2020, India has banned a total of 224 apps having China links. All of this only causes more and more hatred in human minds and emission of hatred to outer atmosphere.

Here in Sri Lanka the losers of the recently concluded Parliamentary elections are doing things to create anger in our citizens’ minds. But our citizens are not changing their mindfulness and equanimity, a credit to all of us and to our nation as a whole.

Conclusion

It is not just carbon dioxide or any other gaseous emissions that is causing all this horror in our Planet Earth, but the ever increasing emission of hatred from human minds and the attrition amongst people seems to be not abating.

Mutation occurs when an error is incorporated in the viral genome. It therefore can be that the enormous emission of hatred resulted in an error being incorporated in the coronavirus genome to mutate and change from a benign state to a virulent state. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK8439/

Unless the leaders and citizens of this Planet Earth understand this, things will be far worse in the immediate future, and 2021 could well be worse than 2020.
