Sri Lanka will stand the chance of securing their highest-ever medals tally at a BWF event, as the Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025 approaches its final day at the New Saniro Sports Complex in Naiwala, Gampaha on Friday (8).
The young shuttlers representing the hosting nation have already secured berths in 14 finals out of the total 20, and interestingly nine of them will be all-Sri Lankan finals.
This assures Sri Lanka of nine gold and nine silver medals each, while the local athletes have also made it to further five finals that enables the hosts to enhance their medals tally with more gold or silver medals.
Sri Lanka has already secured over 20 bronze medals upon reaching the semi-final stage of nearly 30 events.
The Sri Lanka Junior International Series 2025 officially set take off at the eight-court New Saniro Sports Complex with the preliminary round matches on Tuesday (5), and proceeded with the preliminary rounds and quarter-finals.
On Thursday (7), the semi-finals of all 20 events took place under exciting settings, where the young and promising Sri Lankan shuttlers impressed.
The organisers, Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), received an overwhelming number of entries from leading badminton-playing countries, including Sri Lanka, as the four-day competition show-pieced the country’s capability in hosting an event of high interest and magnitude.
The event, sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia (BA) includes competitions for shuttlers of the age categories of Under-19, Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 under Boy’s and Girl’s in Singles as well as Doubles in Boys’, Girls’ and Mixed categories.
The four-day event is supported McLarens Group as the Principal Sponsors under their leading brands – Mobil, 3M, McFoil, GAC, and Dr.Fixit – reaffirming the Group’s dedication to elevating Sri Lankan sports to global standards.
The event will conclude on Friday (8), following the finals and a grand closing ceremony, where SLB officials including President Roshan Gunawardena, Secretary Ajith Wijeyasinghe, Tournament Committee Chairman Dinesh Jayawardena and Organising Committee Chairman Rohan de Silva are expected to grace the occasion.
