Cricket: Athapaththu-led SL women to play five T20Is in India

All-rounder Chamari Athapaththu will lead the 15-member Sri Lanka Women’s T20 squad for the upcoming T20 series against India Women set to take place from December 21 to 30 in India.

The five-match T20 series, which has been slated as a crucial outing for both teams ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 set to take place in England, will see Sri Lanka field a team that consist of mixture of experience and youth.

Top-order batter Harshitha Samarawickrama has been named as the vice captain of the squad, indicating that Sri Lanka has laid the foundation the hunt for future leadership roles among the available younsgters.  

The squad includes consistent opening batter Vishmi Gunaratne, as well as Shashini Gimhani, a 17-year-old aspiring spinner and Nimesha Madushani, a 26-year-old left-arm spinner set to make her national debut.

The five-match T20I series will begin with the first game on December 21 in Visakhapatnam, where the second game will also be played on December 23. The three remaining games will be played on December 26, 28 and 30 in Thiruvananthapuram.
