The reigning National Women’s Open champion Anika Seneviratne overcame some stiff resistance from Savini Jayasuriya before easing to victory 7/5, 3/6, 6/3 at the 105th Colombo Tennis Championship at the SLTA courts in Greenpath, Colombo on Saturday (13).
After a close fight in the first set, Anika conceded the second to Savini before bouncing back strongly in the third to take home the Women’s Singles title.
In another thrilling final, the Men’s Doubles event saw the pair of Vibuda Wijebandara and Savit Weerasinghe pulling off a 2-1 win over the reigning national doubles champions Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne.
Despite conceding the first set, they came back with a vengeance to win the remaining two sets to clinch the title.
Anika Seneviratne and Vibuda Wijebandara will be aiming for their second title of the championship as they will be playing in two finals slotted to be played on Sunday (14).
Anika partnered by her sister Alana will meet the reigning National Women’s Doubles champions Janali Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya in the Women’s Doubles final while Vibuda will confront Luca Knese in the Men’s Open Singles final.
