Roshan Ranatunga and Rumeshika Ratnayake became the best athletes in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the Athletics Championship of the All-Island School Games concluded at Diyagama on Monday (11). Ranatunga a high jumper representing Kularatne MV Godakawela became the best boy’s athlete while Ratnayake, a sprinter from St. Joseph’s Girls’ School, became the best athlete among girls. The All Island Schools Games overall championship was won by Western Province (1043) while Central (627) and Sabaragamuwa (485) Provinces were finished at second and third respectively. Maris Stella College with an aggregate of 163 points won the overall boys’ championship while Ratnayake Central Walala with 194 points became the girls’ overall champions. Ratnayake Central Walala with 96 points emerged the runner-up in the boys’ category while Sumana Balika Vidyalaya Ratnapura with 147 points became the girls’ runner-up. St. Benedict’ College Kotahena with 72 points was placed third overall in the boys category while St. Joseph’s Girls’ School with 141 points, was placed third in the girls’ category.
